Here?s what I love about President Obama?s Framework for Business Tax Reform: His diagnosis of the problem is spot on. In just a few pages, the Treasury Department does a marvelous job describing what?s wrong with the way the U.S. taxes business. Anybody interested in understanding why the tax code is such a mess should read this.
Joe Sullivan hunts down the bad guys drawn to the world's largest social network. How far will be go to keep the site safe--and still protect your privacy.
Hosannas to Brooke Baldwin, CNN anchor from 2-4 pm every day. She was armed with the Citizens for Tax Justice report which showed that many US corporations pay 1 % to 15% federal taxes anyway-- or far, far less than President Obama's attempt to look pro- big business by setting 28%-- rather than 35% as the maximum tax corporations must pay.
Yesterday evening Nick Bilton of the New York Times reported details on the long rumored ?Google Goggles?, sunglasses that offer augmented reality in the form of a internet overlay ? also known colloquially as Terminator Vision.
As someone who spends her time looking closely at how entrepreneurs build buzz-worthy brands, it?s nothing short of thrilling to come across someone like Marie Forleo. Since first launching a one-woman business coaching practice in 2001, Marie has built a multi-million dollar empire. Her company focuses on small business and personal development training for women entrepreneurs. She?s also built a robust media platform, which even further extends the reach of the Marie Forleo brand.
After a lot of waiting, Treasury has finally put forward the administration?s outline for business tax reform. While Congress is almost certainly going to do nothing on these ideas this year (or at least before the election) it does provide a general overview of the administration?s goals and objectives. Small and medium business owners need to pay attention.
Samuel Palmisano, who recently retired from his position as IBM's CEO and is now chairman of the board, is - by all accounts - a good leader. He leaves IBM in excellent shape, financially and organizationally, and has handed over the day-to-day reins as CEO to Ginni Rommetty, the first woman to lead IBM. if you wander around the web, you'll see that he's generally held in high regard by those he's led. I read an article in the NYT last month that focused on how he has run his business over the past decade. I was especially struck by the four questions Palmisano used as a framework, starting just a few months after he became CEO:
? ?Why would someone spend their money with you ? so what is unique about you??
It seems that Congress is always fighting partisan battles, but when they agree to do something significant without partisan rancor, it is not big news. Take last week.
Here?s the thing - leadership and conflict go hand-in-hand. Leadership is a full-contact sport, and if you cannot or will not address conflict in a healthy, productive fashion, you should not be in a leadership role. From my perspective, the issues surrounding conflict resolution can be best summed-up by adhering to the following ethos; ?Don't just deal with it; embrace it - it's your job.? While you can try and avoid conflict (bad idea), you cannot escape conflict. The fact of the matter is conflict in the workplace is unavoidable. It will find you whether you look for it (good idea ? more later) or not. The ability to recognize conflict, understand the nature of conflict, and to be able to bring swift and just resolution to conflict will serve you well as a leader ? the inability to do so may well be your downfall.
Few people have defined an era of business like Steve Jobs, Jack Welch, and Mark Zuckerberg. Although they all had different styles, their impact on society has been tremendous.
Let me start by saying I'm a believer in openness and sharing. The concept of owning ideas seems to stifle innovation, and in particular, the emerging re-mix culture we're seeing explode seems like it's on a collision course with owning and controlling IP.
While the Republican Presidential candidates waste precious time battling each other over abortion and same sex marriage, President Obama has shrewdly proposed major changes in the tax code that can only be seen as a new step to prove he is not an anti-business left wing enemy of the private sector.
The tax debate is gaining momentum and attracting much attention. Tax initiatives are a central feature of the President?s proposed 2013 budget and what happens with tax policy will be a key discussion point in the upcoming presidential election. We, as citizens, need to ask a very important question: ?In addressing tax policy changes should the truth based on facts win the day or should spin and political ideology determine the outcome?? This is not just a rhetorical question. Rather, it is a critical question whose answer will weigh heavily on the future of our great country. We should all hope that Republicans and Democrats, Conservatives and Liberals, and all individuals regardless of race, religion, economic, or educational status could agree that our founders created a roadmap for our democracy that can only be followed if our citizens can trust their elected officials, if our elected officials tell the truth, and if all individuals are actively engaged in understanding the facts that underlie the important issues.
Image via Wikipedia Is that title a stupid question or what ? It seems though that if there is no Jeremy Lin connection to your story nowadays nobody is interested. To go directly to the question, I could not discern from his biography what Tommy Amaker's religion is. Also Harvard, despite
Social networking is big business. Based on trading on SharesPost, Facebook has a valuation of about $98 billion, though the enthusiasm also exists for other social media companies, such as Zynga, which has a valuation over $9 billion. Of course, the social game maker has built its tremendous business on the Facebook platform.
Cloud computing means more than simply saving on IT implementation costs. Cloud offers enormous opportunity for new innovation, and even disruption of entire industries.
Jorge Calderon was a venture capitalist who wanted to invest where others weren?t. He found his under-served market: women- and minority-owned businesses.
There is no substitute for persistence, ambition, and hard work. Jeremy Lin and Steve Jobs epitomize this ideology, which is why they both reached the top of their profession. They did not let obstacles stop them, and never accepted ?NO? for an answer.
Facebook and Google are two of technology?s great data projects. Love them or hate them, they spend all day mining their users? activity. They harvest a few dozen bits of usable personal information per user per day. All in the interest of serving you ads.
